Christmas is around the corner, and with all the mouth-watering food, flowing drinks and presents buying—who is thinking about work?
As early as mid-December, studies show that 60% of employees become mentally distracted during the festive season, resulting in a drop in productivity. So the HR team at GCS Malta have created a list of various festive activities you can plan during the Christmas season to raise productivity levels and build better relationships in the office!
- Elf on the Shelf – Get an Elf for the office and leave a small gift for a different employee each day to spread the Christmas cheer.
- Decorate the office – Even with minimum decorations, a bit of tinsel and baubles around the office can create a festive atmosphere.
- Play Secret Santa – Although not an original idea, playing secret Santa with your colleagues is always fun, especially with the random, funny gift-givers!
- Host an Award ceremony – Possibly the most creative way to engage your staff, create a list of awards, buy a couple of snacks and drinks, and you’re good to go.
- Have a department decoration contest – If you can go all out, why not turn decorating into a competition? Add a Christmas-related prize such as a Christmas cake for added festive spice.
- Give employees a Christmas gift – Whilst a bonus is always great, aim to give them another small gift such as sweets and branded items to thank them for their hard work.
- Hold a Christmas movie night – This is easily doable if you have a projector or a big monitor. Buy some popcorn, nachos and hot chocolate for the ultimate cinematic festive experience.
- Have a stocking decoration session – Buy a plain Christmas stocking for each employee and some stationery to decorate with. Why not turn it into a competition? The best-decorated stocking gets filled with sweets!
- Organise a Christmas Sweater Day for Charity – Simplistic but fun, tell your staff to wear a Christmas Jumper. Then, for added Christmas spirit, collect a small donation from each employee that you can donate to your chosen charity.
- Throw a Christmas party – Whether renting a venue or hosting it at the office, a Christmas party is always a good idea to showcase your appreciation towards your staff. Play some tunes, order food and beverages, and you’re set for a great night.
