Do you feel burned out at work? With little to no motivation to work, your emotions start taking the better of you, and you feel alone. Well, you are not alone. Here’s what you can do when your job starts affecting your health.
Start by asking yourself the following questions.
- Are you using food or drugs as an escape, to feel better or, to another extent, not feel at all?
- Have your sleep habits changed? Do you find yourself endlessly scrolling on your phone at night till late?
- Do you lack satisfaction from your achievements?
- Do you find it impossible to get up from bed? Ending up dragging yourself to work and having trouble getting started?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, consider talking to a mental health provider, as there might be more to it than you think.
Heavy workloads, long working hours, and struggle to balance work and life are job burnout risk factors.
Eventually, job burnout will continue to lead you in the wrong direction, such as; sadness, heart disease, high blood pressure, excessive stress, fatigue, insomnia… the list goes on, which is why you must act on it and not ignore it.
Seek support, do not go to just anyone, as they can make you feel worse. Instead, go to someone that you know will listen and understand you. Try something different, like a relaxing activity, a bike ride will change your mood and you will get your body going.
“Burnout” isn’t a medical diagnosis. Some experts think that other conditions, such as depression, are behind burnout. In addition, researchers point out that individual factors, such as personality traits and family life, influence who experiences job burnout.
Whatever the cause, job burnout can affect your physical and mental health. Consider how to know if you’ve got job burnout and what you can do about it.
