Candidate engagement is the process of communication between the job seeker and the recruiter and the level of engagement throughout the recruitment process. Not yet sure how you can boost candidate engagement? Check out our previous article here to find out.

In this article, our excellent recruitment team at GCS Malta will discuss ways you can measure candidate engagement.

Email and Social Media Engagement

Although social media is quite often seen as the only way forward, email remains the most important method of engagement. Here are some things to measure to keep track of email engagement:

  • Open rate
  • Delivery rate
  • Click-through rate
  • Unsubscribe rate
  • Hard and soft bounces

While emails have the leg up, social media also offers an excellent opportunity for candidate engagement since social media accounts tend to garner new candidates. Try measuring:

  • Reach
  • Impressions
  • Post engagement

By keeping track of these factors, you can better see what needs to be improved to raise your candidate engagement level.

Application Completion Rate and Drop-off

In a study done by Recruiter.com, when looking at the click-to-apply ratio for 500,000 applications, only 10.6% of job seekers complete an application with less than 25 questions. Therefore, aim to make your application process as user-friendly and straightforward as possible to reduce drop-off rates.

Applicant Tracking System (ATS)

Implementing an applicant tracking system allows you to track your candidate’s journey while providing you with engagement metrics such as:

  • The number of new candidates per month
  • The percentage of those candidates being reviewed/contracted etc.
  • ATS Source activity – the percentage of candidates submitted, interviewed and placed

Therefore, adopting an ATS will allow you to identify strengths and weaknesses in engagement efforts.

Net Promoter Score (NPS)

The net promoter score tells you how likely a candidate is to refer your company to a contact on a scale of 1-10. To work out the score:

% of promoters who score 9 or 10 – % of detractors who score 1 to 6

Scores can range from -100 to 100, and you can use this calculator to make the process easier.

Besides calculating the score mathematically, you can also monitor NPS by tracking reviews on platforms like Glassdoor.

Candidate Engagement Survey

Candidate engagement surveys are a great way to keep track of candidate engagement since it shows candidates that you want to know their opinions and how you can improve. Here are some candidate engagement survey questions:

  • Do you engage with social media content?
  • Would you recommend [company] to others?
  • What is the best platform to post job postings to? Why?
